Labor Force
- Employees in West Texas have a reputation for
lower levels of absenteeism and turnover and
higher rates of productivity. West Texans
tend to work harder, have a higher sense of
responsibility toward their jobs, and are
generally happy people. In Clyde, person in
their prime working years between 25 and 54
represent about 39% of the total population.
- Clyde's work force area not only includes
Callahan County, but also Taylor, Jones, and
Shackelford Counties. These four counties
have a population estimate of 156,200 with a
workforce of 76,711 and an unemployment rate of
4.3%.
Utilities
- Water Adequate water
supplies are available and service can be
extended to meet additional demand or to increase
geographic coverage. The water system has a
total daily capacity of 850,000 gallons with an
average daily demand of 400,000 gallons, leaving
53% available capacity. For residential and
commercial use, a monthly minimum of $15 per
family or commercial unit plus $3.00 per 1,000
gallons.
- Wastewater The basic
residential sewer rate is $18.45 per month.
Each 1,000 gallons of water use increases
the sewer rate by $0.70 per 1,000 through 8,000
gallons. The maximum residential rate is
$24.05. On commercial sewer usage there is
no ceiling with the rate continuing at $0.70 per
1,000 gallons.
- Electricity Electric
service is provided by WTU Electric Company, a
leading marketer of low-cost and innovative
energy related services. WTU has
demonstrated that its service is extremely
dependable with a reliability rating of 99.98%.
- Gas Natural gas service is
provided by TXU-Gas. Rates are determined
by the amount of usage. Please contact TXU
for a complete rate schedule.
- Telecommunication Currently
provided by GTE with a pending sale to Valor
Telecommunications of Texas, LP, subject to the
approval of the Texas Public Utility
Commission. Clyde has state of the art
equipment with fully digital DMS 10 Switch for
all custom calling features, ISDN, and fiber
optic T-1 lines that are expandable to meet all
business needs.
