From a tiny corner in the 1971 Chamber Building to the present location in the former People's State Building, the Clyde Public Library has provided reading materials and programs for the people of Clyde and the surrounding area. Currently the Library is open from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The staff consists of Librarian, Judy Kuykendall and Green Thumb assistant, Catherine Taylor. Everyone is encouraged to call for information and visit the Library in person. A monthly exhibit is presented in the display case. New books for adults and children are displayed in special sections for you. |

Library cards: To obtain a library card, residents of Clyde and Callahan County should present identification with current address including a Texas driver's license, utility bill, check book with a current address, or car insurance card. Call the library for further assistance. |

Services Bookdrop: The bookdrop on the north side of the building on Second Street. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Reader's Services: People looking for suggestions for a good book to read may find assistance from the staff. |

| Reference Services: For
factual information and research purposes, whether it is the price one
particular item on antiques, information on showing animals at the fair, a
resume or the price of automobiles or home appliances, discuss your
questions with the staff. During 1999 and 2000, the Library received
approx. $10,000 to purchase new reference materials to assist people with
their information needs. Many questions may be answered with these
new resources.
Computer Services: Two computers with internet connections and one for information on various compact disks have been provided through grants from the Technology Infrastructure Foundation and the Tocker Foundation. A person with a library card will need to read and sign the computer contract to use the computers. Inter-Library Loan Services: When information or books 1-year or older cannot be found locally, the Clyde Public Library if one of more than 700 public and college libraries in the State cooperating in lending books to individuals. While books come from all over the United States to fill reader's requests, frequently, the Abilene Public Library can fill these requests. A small postage fee is charged on books borrowed from libraries other than Abilene. |

Reserves: The
Library takes reserves or "holds" on books that are checked
out.. When a book comes back, it is held for the next person on the list.
Summer Story Time: East summer there is a story time for ages 3rd through 6th grade. Once a week story tellers present the story time to two different age groups. Through this activity children increase their work knowledge and start school better prepared each year. There is also time to check-out books after the story time. Watch for announcements in May of each year to register for story time. Summer Reading Club: Children my also register for the Texas State Library Reading Club. Children receive a reading log to keep track of the books they read. Children who do not yet read, my participate by having a family member read to them. Check with the Library for further details in May of each year. |

are encouraged to call the Library to set up appointments for tours.
Friends of the Clyde Public Library: Without the dedicated support of individuals of this group, the Library would not exist to serve Clyde and Callahan County residents. These Friends are a vital, essential ingredient in the success and operation of our Library. Individual and Businesses are encouraged to support this organization through memberships. To provide improved library services, in 1997 the Friends undertook a major project by purchasing the former People's State Building and remodeling it for a Library. Money from memberships goes to pay off this debt and to provide operating expenses for the library each year. Individuals also contribute time in various ways by processing books and materials, shelving, assisting with the October Pecan Festival annual book and bake sale, providing baked items for events during the year, coordinating displays in the glass display case, working with local and State organizations for the improvement of all libraries, keeping local and State Officials informed regarding library progress and needs, coordinating the summer story telling and reading club program and developing programs for the general public.
